If you are bored, they will be too!
Let me tell you a true story about an unhappy recruiter who became a happy resume designer.
I might as well tell you now, this story is about me. I was the unhappy recruiter.
Step 1: you are a recruiter
Imagine you are a recruiter. Do you think it is easy reading resumes day after day? I bet that after reading your x-th resume that day you would not care about the next one. Imagine people burying you with irrelevant info and expecting you to find meaning in the depths of the prosaic writings they call a resume.
Can you believe that some even send handwritten resumes? Whenever I see one of those, I imagine the author walking to school 20 miles every day. In my mind they walk barefoot, like Huckleberry Finn.
Try walking in my shoes.
Step 2: nitpicking
Take a nitpicking look at your resume. A good time to achieve this “objective” state of mind is after a tough day. How do you feel about your resume? Embarrassed? Bored? Frustrated?
Now try to imagine how would you, as a recruiter from the Step 1 above, feel about this particular resume? Would you laugh at it or even worse, stop reading after the first glance?
If you think about this seriously, there is a real life drama going on here. You applied for a job, you really need the money and some short-sighted recruiter just skims you out of competition.
Step 3: life is unfair
Sometimes life is unfair, but not this time. Recruiters will love you if you show them how. Give love to receive love.
First, you show great respect to your recruiter. Love them for their time and effort. Second, provide motivation for arranging a personal meeting (better known as a job interview). How do you achieve these goals?
Step 4: be unique
You are unique, we all are. You must not hide this fact when writing a resume. You need your resume to be as unique as you are. This is the only way to get noticed. Resume should efficiently present information that is relevant to the job that you seek.
Unique resume design is what I do. My job is to bring out the best of you, to make it obvious even to the weary recruiter.
You see, this story had a happy ending for me. I became some kind of resume superhero. I fight the bad and produce only the best quality resumes. Now that you know about me and my unique mission in life...
Sincerely,
Izabela Bogdanovic
